Mr. Bovee is considered one of the top-rated Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM consultants in the United States. Robert specializes in the following specific areas.

  1. How to design and develop profitable Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM Profit Centers and Corporations”.
  2. How to design and develop Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM Programs.
  3. How to be recognized and approved by the medical community and reimbursed by insurance companies and self-insured corporations (3rd party reimbursements).
  4. How to design, develop and write Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM Corporate Management Systems, Employee Management Systems and Client Management Systems.
  5. Corporate Health, Wellness and Fitness: You can not approach corporations in the same old fashion manor as fitness facilities have in the past. Self insured corporations are easy to tap into if you are program oriented, recognized and approved by the medical field and reimbursed by the insurance companies.
  6. Research, Design and Development: There is an abundance of State and federal grant money that you can be taped into for research, design and development of specialized exercise programs for arthritis, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, etc.
  7. Fitness Equipment, Clothing and Accessories: When you professionally design programs on a personal level, your clients are going to need specific/personal accessories. Why let someone else make the money.
  8. Accounting and Billing: Billing insurance companies and self insured corporations can not only be tricky, it can put you out of business if you’re not careful. Workmen’s Compensation can be a wonderful opportunity if you know the many different services that you can bill for and how to bill for them (procedures, regulations, guidelines, etc.).
  9. Marketing-Advertising-Promotions: Your Professional Personal Training and Exercise/FitnessTherapySM Services should be treated as a separate business. It should be able to stand on its own two feet. How you market/advertise/promote these services and specialized programs to the public and with in your facility is very unique and much different than how you market your club. If this is done properly, you’re going to be able to attract people into your facility that normally would not even consider walking through your door. I have to say this again. If this is done properly, it has endless capabilities!
  10. New Members, Clients, Referrals & Retention: If you build a fitness facility to compete against other facilities located in the same demographic area, chances are you are going to build a fitness facility that is nicer, cleaner, and more spacious, better staffed and has better service than the other facilities. Just like everybody else!!!! And you probably are going to do alright, until someone builds one bigger and better than yours. Sound familiar?? It should. For the past 25 to 30 years (for the most part) fitness facilities have been competing on the same level and fishing from the same “very small” watering hole. I strongly agree with Michael Scott Scudder and Thomas Plummer. Not only is the pricing (monthly dues) 25 years old, multiple levels of the fitness industry are antiquated and still living in the dark ages.

I for one have chosen to move forward and have proven there is a much larger pond to fish from. This pond is the size of the largest ocean (Corporate America and Insurance Companies) with unlimited resources. If you want to fish in this ocean and “be paid for it” you must be able to provide monitored specialized programs.
TPHA™ offers over 170 specialized programs. The 170 specialized programs represent 170 different social circles. 160 of which, other fitness facilities (your competition) won’t do, can’t do, aren’t capable of doing or are not qualified to do. This in itself represents “three unlimited opportunities”.

a) The first is “New Members” - Most fitness facilities draw from a 3 to 5 mile radius. How would you like to triple that distance, 9 to 15 miles? It’s not only possible, TPHA™ does it every day. It only stands to reason that if your fitness facility is the only facility in your area that is reimbursed for specialized programs the people will come from far and wide to receive these insurance based benefits.

How would you like to be able to attract and bring new members into your fitness facility that the other fitness facilities are not capable of doing? This opportunity has truly “Unlimited Capabilities”. There are seven segments of the population that you need to focus on.

  1. Individuals that need Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation Programs for Bone, Muscle and Soft Tissue Injuries.
Why aren’t “any” of these individuals in your facility?
  2. Individuals that need Prevention and Treatment Programs for Chronic Conditions and Diseases.
Why aren’t “any” of these individuals in your facility?
  3. Over Weight, deconditioned and Sedentary - They are the largest segment of the population. It has been determined that 64% of the population is over weight and deconditioned.
Why aren’t “more” of these individuals in your facility?
  4. Baby Boomers - They are the fastest growing segment of the population. Where are they?
Why aren’t “more” of these individuals in your facility?
  5. Senior Citizens (ages 60 - 74) – They are a stable segment of the population that doesn’t like getting old or what comes with getting old.
Why aren’t “more” of these individuals in your facility?
  6. Super Senior Citizens (Chronically Gifted) - (ages 75 - 110) - They are a segment of the population that desperately wants to avoid nursing homes.
Why aren’t any of these individuals in your facility?
  7. Children (ages 4 - 11) & Young Adults (ages 12 - 17) - This segment of the population is “Huge” and virtually untouched. If you offer recognized and approved sports specific conditioning programs and monitored programs for the obese, out of shape, sedentary individuals with in this age group you will corner the market.
Why aren’t any of these individuals in your facility?

ANSWER TO THE LAST SEVEN QUESTIONS
Because these seven segments of the population will not use your facility if you don’t offer what they specifically need.

To accomplish this you must gradually build “credibility” through the Medical Field, Insurance Companies and local Corporations. This will allow you to build your “image” as a Health Care Provider and to change your “environment” just enough to create the “experience” that they are going to need in order for them to become involved with your fitness facility. I totally understand that some of you have successful fitness facilities. Don’t misunderstand what I am trying to convey to you. I’m not telling you to entirely change the formula that made you successful. What I am suggesting is that you add the necessary components to not only stay successful but to go to the next level. You must create a facility that can effectively service multiple segments of the population.

WARNING!!! As more and more hospitals establish fitness facilities, it will be necessary to create a higher level of service and quality in order to compete and win over the 7 segments of the population we have discussed earlier on. You will either learn how to compete in the year 2002 and beyond or you will eventually disappear.

The 170 specialized programs that TPHA™ offers (and you can too) not only attract the type of members that are generally healthy and already motivated, they attract the very illusive (unmotivated) new/first time not so healthy members that have special/specific needs (bone, muscle and soft tissue injuries or chronic conditions and diseases) – (see programs offered by TPHA™ insert).

Once the other seven segments of the population sees the medical segment coming in and using your facility on a regular basis, they find a comfort zone and will follow them right through your doors 2 and 3 at a time. Talk about a target rich environment. $$$ !!!

I don’t know what the equation is in your city or county, but Rochester based insurance companies and corporations have estimated only 1 in 48 people exercise in fitness facilities. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out that if we raised that number to 2 in 48 people the fitness facility owners would have to double the amount of gyms just to service that many people.

Fitness Facility owners and managers, there is only one way to accomplish this and that is to offer the many different types of specialized programs that will attract these segments of the population into you fitness facility. The insurance companies not only want to use the fitness industry as a hub for holistic care, a main source for health, wellness, fitness, education and specialized programming, they are praying to God that we step up to the plate. The Fitness Industry represents a huge reduction in costs related to medical and compensation cases for corporations and insurance companies. The best part about this is Corporate America and the Insurance Companies are willing to spend “millions” in prevention rather than “billions” in rehabilitation. TPHA™ represents both sides of the coin. Wouldn’t you like it too???

b) The second is “referrals” – I would like to briefly revisit some very important points of value that I have mentioned above, but this time from a totally different angle. Let’s say that you build this bigger and better facility and members join because you have developed a good aerobic and personal training program, you’re nicer, cleaner, and more spacious, better equipped and have better services. I am willing to bet that the largest segment of your membership base is experienced (have belonged to another fitness facility prior to joining yours), motivated, and generally healthy individuals. There is also an excellent chance that your experienced, motivated, generally healthy members will refer the same type of people for the same reasons that they joined. This is great, right??? Think again, personally I don’t think so. This is a very small segment of the population, its one dimensional and antiquated. For the most part, fitness facilities have been competing on the same level and for the same group of people for more years than I care to discuss. Now, don’t get me wrong, if you build a better, more complete facility than your competition, you’re off to a good start. But no where near done.

How would you like it if your members could “refer” your facility to potential members (friends, family, and co-workers) for over 170 “new” specialized reasons? Each specialized program represents a different social circle and segments of the population that don’t normally use a fitness facility. If your facility offers your members 170 different reasons above and beyond the normal everyday reasons that they refer your facility for. I guarantee your referrals will diversify and go straight through the roof. It’s as simple as this; if you want to expand your referral program you must expand the reasons for members to refer your facility.

By drastically increasing the reasons to join your facility, you may never have to spend the money to advertise again. Don’t forget, your members won’t be the only people “referring” potentially new members to your facility. Now doctors will be sending their patience and insurance companies will be “referring” you their members. There are over 1500 doctors in Monroe County (Rochester, NY). As far as I’m concerned that’s 1500 sales people that work for me “free of charge”.

Another unbelievable benefit from this is that the insurance companies “Promote and Advertise” your services to both the doctors and their members through out the year “free of charge”. It simply doesn’t get any better than this on any level.

c) The third is “Retention” -The perfect facility to own would only lose a member if he or she became deathly ill, died or “truly” moved far enough away to make it impossible to use your facility.. Your attrition rate would be around 5%!! Impossible, maybe, but I am willing to bet that you can come pretty close if you gave your members 170 professional specialized reasons to stay. Or should I say “corporate and insurance 3rd party reimbursement reasons to stay”. If you offer recognized, approved and reimbursed programs that your competition isn’t qualified or capable of offering, these members will have no other option but to stay. Even if your competition did offer the same programs, members don’t trade in their Health Care Provider like they do their fitness facilities.

As soon as your facility becomes recognized and approved by the medical field and reimbursed by the insurance companies and self insured corporations, your fitness facility and its employees take on instant credibility. Your image changes over night, your members and potential members now see you, not only as a fitness facility but as a Health Care Provider.

Don’t forget, the loyalist members that you will ever encounter are the members that your employees are personally responsible for changing their lives for the better.

11. How to tie your Fitness Facility and Professional Personal Training Corporation/Profit Center together: They must work together in perfect harmony. Even though your Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM center/corporation should have its own marketing/promoting/advertising campaign and should be able to stand on its own two feet. It must also work in perfect harmony with in the facility it self. How to tie the two of them together is truly a work of art. If you weave your specialized programs and services through out your membership base properly your Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM will sell itself and produce referrals beyond your wildest dreams.

12. How to Measure the success and value of your Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM Corporation/Profit Center: The amount of $$MONEY$$ that your Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM service generates is one of the best ways to measure but “not” the only way. Mr. Bovee can teach you the many different important points of value that should factor in to your over all evaluation. Always remember, credibility will create $$PROFIT$$ from sources that aren’t available to you now. If you are already making a decent amount of money from your Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM, what’s wrong with DOUBLING or even TRIPLING that amount? Are you receiving income from every possible source? These are just a few of the “many” questions that he can help you find answers to.

13. Educational Requirements & Certification:

Requirements

Because The Personal Health Approach™ and its team of Professional Personal Trainers and Exercise/Fitness TherapistsSM are recognized and approved by the medical field and reimbursed by insurance companies, our educational guidelines and requirements are much more extensive than the average personal trainer. All Professional Personal Trainers and Exercise/Fitness TherapistsSM are required to have a minimum of 2 totally different “types” of nationally recognized certifications.

First: Each Professional Personal Trainers and Exercise/Fitness TherapistsSM that is employed by The Personal Health Approach™ must be CPR certified and Nationally Recognized and certified with either National Federation of Professional Trainers (NFPT), American Counsel on Exercise (ACE), Aerobic & Fitness Association of America (AFFA), National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), America College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), International Dance and Exercise Source (IDEA), the Health and Fitness Source for Professionals or Coopers Institute for Aerobic research.

Second: As “necessary and creditable” as the above mentioned certifications are, they offer no extended time related practical (hands on) experience. 99% of personal training and specialized certification programs are 90% written and 10% practical. For this reason, the medical field and insurance companies strongly suggested that The Personal Health Approach’s™ educational/certification division, The National Academy of The Personal Health Approach™ (NATPHA), design, develop and offer “advanced” certification courses that specialized in “practical/hands on experience”, in each specialized area that we offer.
So we did. Each certification course takes a minimum of 12 weeks (15 hours per week) to complete and is 90% practical (hands on) and 10% written. Both the educational and hands on experience required to earn each certification make a very complete Professional Personal Trainer-Exercise/Fitness TherapistSM.

In addition to the mandatory (2) certifications required, The Personal Health Approach™ also provides their certified trainers with an ongoing education throughout the year with Bi-monthly lectures, weekly articles, monthly news letters and both practical and written testing on all material covered. Each trainer/therapist must pass these tests in order to maintain their certification status through out the year. This rigid standard ensures that each trainer stays abreast of the latest developments and state-of-the-art technologies, while providing our clients with the finest education and supervision in the United States.
If your Professional Personal Training Profit Center/Company doesn’t have an in-house, on-going educational system in place that updates your trainers on a consistent basis and provides the practical experience necessary to be recognized and approved by the medical field and insurance companies, 3rd party reimbursements will never be an option. This sounds a lot harder than it really is. We have perfected it right down to the last detail. The credibility that this will bring to your facility will be worth it’s weight in gold. All you have to do is let us teach you how to do it.

14. Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM Programs: Each program must be personalized to the exact needs and goals of each client. Each program should be written in accordance with the medical questionnaire and with in the necessary consultations, evaluations and medically based guidelines and suggestions. All aspects of the program and changes in the body must be monitored and tracked on a daily basis (log by date and time) on separate tracking charts. With out a detailed Client Management System, 3rd party reimbursements will be totally impossible to obtain.

15. Learn how to manage day to day growth of your Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM: For most of you it’s hard to imagine what 30 to 40 Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM appointments per hour would look like, let alone how to manage them. But first you must learn how to walk before you run. But make no mistake, you will never learn how to run if you can’t manage the day-to-day growth of your company.

16. Insurance Companies and Self Insured Corporation 3rd Party Reimbursements: On October 1, 2000 The Personal Health Approach, Inc.™ became the first Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM Corporation in the United States to be reimbursed (3rd party reimbursements) for Exercise/Fitness TherapySM Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation Programs for Bone, Muscle and Soft Tissue Injuries.

Due to the over all success and the overwhelming response to The Personal Health Approach, Inc.’s™ Exercise/Fitness TherapySM Programs, BlueCross BlueShield (Blue Choice) and Via Health have expanded their coverage of our Exercise/Fitness TherapySM Programs.

On October 1, 2001 The Personal Health Approach™ became the first Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM Corporation in the United States to be recognized and approved by the medical field and reimbursed for Prevention and Treatment Programs for Chronic Conditions and Diseases.

The first 4 specialized areas are:

a. Arthritis
c. Pain Management
b. High Cholesterol d. C.A.D. (Coronary Artery Disease)

There are many different types of 3rd party reimbursements, each of them requires a different approach and have a separate set of requirements/guidelines. We have broken down the doors to the insurance companies. All you have to do is let us teach you how to walk through these doors and receive 3rd party reimbursements.

17. Waivers and Releases: In most cases, a well-written, properly administered waiver that is signed voluntarily by an adult will protect a fitness professional or club from ordinary law suits.

18. Liability Management “Today any one can get sued”: The best way to avoid a lawsuit is to avoid issues pertaining to liability in the first place. Fitness facilities and/or Professional Personal Training Profit Centers/Corporations that follow the proper procedures and management systems can avoid and when necessary win most lawsuits. The Personal Health Approach, Inc.™, management systems and procedures are geared to help develop safe, Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM Profit Centers and Corporations. Experience, Education, Risk Management Plans, Properly Written and Administered Waivers, Documentation, Corporate Management Systems, Client Management Systems and Employee Management Systems are the name of the game. Most of the time, “Short Cuts” will cost you dearly in many ways.

19. Risk Management Plans: No waiver or agreement to participate is fool proof. None is absolutely certain to provide the protection desired, even when the client is an adult. Circumstances can cause the unexpected results in a trial, courts can fail to follow precedent and even well-written waivers can be deemed invalid due to some unexpected interpretation. The best protection from liability is to avoid issues pertaining to law suits in the first place. The most effective way to avoid or reduce injuries is through sound, ongoing risk-management programs.

Risk management is a program by which the club or fitness professional 1) identifies the source of the risk; 2) evaluates the potential impact of the risk upon financial stability; 3) devises strategies to control or limit the risks faced; and 4) implements the program. Every club should have an ongoing risk-management plan. Such a plan cannot eliminate all injuries and risk, but it can significantly reduce the number of injuries occurring and, subsequently, the number of potential lawsuits. It also provides documentation of measures taken, and provides for transfer of certain risks to other parties.

20. Seminars/Lecture: This is another tool that he uses to educate your corporation/employees.

Robert Bovee’s seminars and lectures specialize in the following areas:

Health, Wellness & Fitness

Sports Specific Conditioning Exercise Programs

Exercise/Fitness TherapySM
Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation Programs for Bone, Muscle & Soft Tissue Injuries

These programs are designed to rehabilitate bone, muscle and soft tissue injuries, prevent new injuries from occurring and strengthen and condition the over all body.

Exercise/Fitness TherapySM
Prevention & Treatment Programs for Chronic Conditions and Diseases

These programs are designed to prevent specific Chronic Conditions and Diseases. In the event that an individual is born with or develops a Chronic Condition or Disease, our programs are designed to manage pain and rehabilitate problems associated with the Chronic Condition or Disease and strengthen and condition the overall body.

Exercise/Fitness TherapySM
Treatment Programs for Disorders & Conditions

  • Anger Management
  • Auditory Impairment/Deaf
  • Circulation Disorders
  • Lifestyle Management
  • Menopause
  • Nicotine Abuse
  • Obesity
  • Organ Transplant/Recipient/Donor
  • Physically Challenged Persons
  • Pre/Post Natal Care
  • Sleeping Disorders
  • Stress Management
  • Substance Abuse/Alcoholism
  • Traumatic Brain Injuries
  • Visual Impairment/Blind

These Programs are designed to manage disorders and conditions through health, wellness and fitness exercise programs. If an individual feels good and looks good, just about anything can be accomplished.

You will find that many Chronic Conditions, Diseases, Bone, Muscle and Soft Tissue Injuries and Disorders can be listed under multiple headings because one problem can very easily lead (progress) into another.

Due to the over all components, modalities, recover capabilities of each individual and personalized nature of Exercise/Fitness TherapySM, all possibilities, variations and considerations must be taken into account when designing and developing each individual’s Exercise/Fitness TherapySM program. This includes but is not limited to the individual’s age and gender. Therefore, boys, girls, men and women of all different age groups must be approached on an individual basis.

21. Exercise Floor Management: With out a great staff (educated/certified) to manage your exercise floor and over see the rules & regulations that make the exercise floor run professionally and smoothly, building a powerful Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM Profit Center/Corporation is next to impossible.

22. Exercise Floor equipment: Did you ever hear the saying “a carpenter is a good as the equipment (tools) he has to work with”. Nothing could be truer when it comes to Professional Personal Training and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM. It’s this simple, Sports Specific Conditioning Programs, Specific Health, Wellness and Fitness Exercise Programs and Exercise/Fitness TherapySM Programs, (Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation Programs for Bone, Muscle and Soft tissue Injuries and Prevention and Treatment of Chronic Conditions and Diseases), can not be properly designed and carried out with out the proper (tools) equipment to perform the programs/exercises on. There isn’t an Insurance Company or Corporation in the entire world that will pay you (3rd party reimbursements) to do specialized programs if you’re not properly equipped to do so.

23. Exercise Floor Design: In order for the Professional Personal Trainers and Exercise/Fitness TherapistSM to do their job effectively and with in an hour’s time frame, the equipment must be set up in a way that controls traffic patterns, maximizes space and efficiency. Cross traffic patterns between trainers, clients, and members who are training on their own causes problems and congestion. If the proper equipment set up is in place and specific rules and regulations are managed properly by your staff, your exercise floor will not only run as smooth as glass, it will look extremely professional to individuals touring your facility.

24. Equipment Specialist: Certain types (brands) of equipment are much more reliable, versatile and safer to use than others especially when Professional Personal Trainers and Exercise/Fitness TherapistsSM are designing personalized programs for specific populations in many different specialized areas.
